Ransomware encrypted my videos
A new extension such as .djvu, .tisc or .gero was added to the file names and the videos do not open.
What happened?
- A ransomware encrypted the files.
- Some kinds encrypt only the start of a video; the rest stays where it was.
What to do
- Do not delete the encrypted files or rename them.
- Do not try decryptors or repair programs you found online on the original files.
- If you have the original of any file that was not encrypted (a backup, a phone, an e-mail attachment), keep it. We may ask for it.
- Upload the encrypted video itself to our site, without renaming it.
Good to know
- The encrypted part does not always come back.
- The part of the video that was not encrypted can often come back.
